	Even though nice off-white, creamy white and light palomino cowhides are rare in their own right, from time to time, we will get one in that truly is a rare, one-of-a-kind cowhide. White cows in Nature are actually "off white" and not pure white. In addition, they almost always have areas of shading along the spine and sides along with small amounts of brown or black spotting. Very rarely we receive white hides with uniform black speckling and striations throughout. This adds a unique, more authentic, beauty to a white cowhide.

Having said all that, some hides are definitely whiter and more uniform in color than others. Representing only 2-3 out of 100 white hides, these more uniformly white hides will cost more money. At the most, we only get 3 or 4 of these more uniformly white hides, every 4-6 weeks. As a result, it is not unusual for a customer to have to wait a few weeks before we can ship.

Nice white hides in stores can easily cost $600-$700. This is assuming you can even find a nice one in the first place, which is doubtful.

Nine out of ten white hides are long hair as manufacturers keep most of the short hair hides to make into zebra prints. As a result, nice short hair white cowhides are rarey ever available. Fortunately, long hair cowhides are generally prettier and more uniform in color than short hair hides due to the fact that the long hair causes the natural shading and spotting to blend in better.

Speaking about long hair and short hair hides...the hair on a short hair hide will look like the hair on a little "weiner" dog (dachshund or doxen dog) while the hair on a long hair hide is usually just long enough where you can "see" and "grab" the hair.

Prices will depend on overall size and how uniform the color is...whether one wants the normal white with more areas of natural shading and speckling or much rarer hides that are more uniform in color.

Two good alternatives to a "white" cowhide would be either a "cream" or a light palomino cowhide. "Cream" is as light a color that still has pigment to it. "Light palomino" is a very light, pale brown. Both the cream and light palomino hides usually have a beautiful sheen to them.

A "creamy white" cowhide is a great alternative for a white cowhide, especially when white hides are not available. We actually think cream colored hides are prettier than white hides since most white cowhides will have more natural discoloration, shading and spotting. "Creamy white" hides, on the other hand, are usually more uniform in color as they generally have much less of this natural discoration and spotting. This, along with the natural sheen that many cream colored hides have, make them very beautiful and elegant looking. However, since they are quite rare, creamy white hides will cost substantially more than plain white hides.

Unfortunately, in addition to being very rare and more expensive than white cowhides, it is nearly impossible to accurately photograph one of these "creamy white" hides because of its very light color. Most any picture would appear "washed out". However, they are very light, actually having just enough pigment where the hide still has color and doesn't look white.

Unfortunately, as with the white and cream colored hides above, it is all but impossible to accurately photograph these light colored palomino cowhides. This picture cannot begin to indicate how stunning lookng these light palomino hides are. What's particularly unfortunate is the fact that you can't see the beautiful sheen most of these hides have.

As with the cream cowhides above, these solid light palomino hides are quite rare, especially "show" quality ones. "Show quality" cowhides represent less than 1-3% of all cowhides. They are the most uniform in color with the fewest number of imperfections.
