95% of all cowhides are either cut in processing or scraped thin where holes are left. These blemishes then have to be either sewn or patched. These repairs are just part of "being a cow", however some hides may have more than others or the repairs may be more noticeable.
These hides can be in this closeout category for any one of several different reasons. In some cases, we may simply have too many of them. On the other hand, some may not be as soft as other hides while still others may have more than the usual amount of marks, brands, patching, seams or sewing in them. Still others may not be as thick or may have an unusual shape to them.
These hides are perfect for the person who wants the "look" of a cowhide but just doesn't want to spend the extra money that they would nomally cost.
Concerning sizes...since Colombian hides do not taper from top to bottom as do Argentine and Brazilian cowhides, they are much wider at the bottom. As a result, a Colombian hide with the same width and length dimensions will have a much larger square foot area than either an Argentine or Brazilian cowhide.
As an example, based on square footage, a 6x7 ft Columbian could easily be classified as an XL cowhide whereas a 6x7 ft. Argentine or Brazilian hide would only be classified as a large cowhide.
