The care instructions for our alpaca fur rugs,
cowhides, mink blankets, sheepskins and area rugs
will obviously be different. Some items are much
more delicate than others so special care will be
needed with those. For example, cow hides can be
cleaned simply by using a sponge with soap and water
while alpaca fur will need to be professionally
cleaned. Please follow the care instructions listed
below for each type of product. By doing so, it
should provide you with years of enjoyable use.
(Many of our fur rugs, mink blankets, area rugs
and even a single cow hide can also be used for wall
hangings. In these cases, mounting instructions are
also included.)
Simply click on the item below to read about its
specific care and mounting instructions.
Cowhides
Care Instructions
Cow hides are very easily cared for. Other than
periodic vacuuming, simple soap and water on a
sponge is generally all that any of our cowhide rugs
or other cow hide products will ever need. Steam
cleaning your cowhide rug will also work if one
makes certain not to put too much water on the hide.
The key is not to let cowhides get soaking wet.
As with any area rug, spraying your cow hide rug
with a "Scotch Guard" type product will help keep it
clean. However, there are much better products on
the market than "Scotch "Guard". Check with a local
carpet cleaner for suggestions. Stain Master's makes
a very good product that can probably be found most
everywhere.
Hanging Instructions For Our Cowhide Rugs
Many people use our cow hide rugs for wall
hangings. Although one could make a mounting bracket
that the hide would attach to, it is much easier
simply to nail or staple your cowhide to the wall
using small nails or large staples. Mounting cow
hides to a brick or concrete wall is a bit more
difficult. We recommend asking someone at Home Depot
or any other hardware store for suggestions.
As a side note, please do not be concerned with
damaging your hide. Properly tanned cowhides are
practically indestructible. Once again, properly
cared for, your cowhide rug should last a life time.

Mink Blankets / Throws
Care Instructions
Our "mink" blankets can be either machine-washed
or professionally dry-cleaned.
Unlike the blankets that most of us have had in
the past that tend to clump up and become dull after
washing, our blankets will look very close to brand
new for years even after multiple washings, IF you
follow our care instructions.
We recommend using the same procedures one would
use in cleaning any other fine washable: using a
mild soap and cold water, sitting your machine on
“gentle cycle”, and “tumble dry”, using no heat!
We can't over emphasize that last statement
enough about using no heat, both in the water and in
the dryer, to keep your blanket looking like new for
years to come, even after many washings! (Using heat
will make the long acrylic fibers "clump" together.)
Setting your washing machine on "gentle" cycle" is
also extremely important.
Your mink blanket will actually be softer after
your wash it. A “starch like” substance called
“sizing” is used in manufacturing and removing it
will make your blanket even more plush and
comfortable.
Some people prefer professional dry cleaning. We
simply suggest making sure the dry cleaner you
select has experience in this kind of product.
Although your mink blanket is very easily cleaned,
we would not want someone “practicing” on your
beautiful blanket!
Hanging Instructions
Many people use our mink blankets for wall
hangings. Being so lightweight, we suggest simply
using small finish nails to hang them on the wall.
Although one could make a mounting bracket that the
blanket would attach to, it is much easier simply to
nail it to the wall using small finish nails.
However, if you prefer, it would be almost as
easy to simply staple or nail the blanket to a piece
of thin molding and then mount this to the wall.
Mounting it to brick or concrete is a bit more
difficult. As we suggested above concerning our area
rugs/ wall hangings, we recommend asking someone at
Home Depot or any other hardware store for
suggestions.

"Naturally Shaped" Sheepskin Rugs
Care Instructions
These Sheepskins are crafted with pride by the
world's largest Sheepskin tanning company. The
quality of their products is their reputation.
Your carefully selected Sheepskin rug may have
been tightly packaged for the journey home and so
the wool may appear flattened. Wool fibers are very
resilient and will bounce back to their original
springy appearance.
A vigorous shake will also help restore the soft,
fluffy appearance of the wool. Any fold marks from
packaging will disappear once the skin has been
removed from the package for several days.
Storage
Should you wish to store your Sheepskin rug at
any time, place it in a cool airy place avoiding
direct sunlight. Packaging in plastic bags for an
extended period of time is not recommended as the
Sheepskin fibers will not breathe and condensation
may occur in warm conditions.
Washing
The unique tanning process enables your Sheepskin
rug to be easily hand or machine-washed. It is
important not to use hot water when washing
Sheepskins as this may damage the pelt of the
Sheepskin.
Hand Washing
Use a mild liquid household detergent in cold or
warm water (max. 40°C/105°F). Do not use soap or
washing powders containing enzymes or bleach, or
which are alkaline.
*Do not use fabric softeners.
Rinse thoroughly in warm water. Hand squeeze as
much water from the Sheepskin as possible or spin in
the washing machine.
We recommend biodegradable camp soaps and Lanolin
based wash products.
Machine Washing
Use the 'wool wash' cycle on your washing machine
and wash in warm water (max 40°C/105°F). Use a mild
liquid detergent suitable for washing machines. Do
not use soap or washing powders containing enzymes
or bleach, or which are alkaline.
Cleaning Minor Spots and Spills
For small spills or spot cleaning, a sponge with
a mild soap and water solution will work best.
Periodically using some kind of talcum powder
will help to keep your alpaca fur smelling fresh.
Drying
Your sheepskin rug may be tumble dried on the
'cool' or 'warm' setting. Do not use the 'hot'
setting as excessive heat may damage it.
Alternatively, hang the Sheepskin outside to dry
naturally, avoiding direct sunlight.
Take care not to place your sheepskin rug on a
radiator, steam pipe or in front of a fan heater as
this may damage the Sheepskin. Do not iron or bleach
the Sheepskin.
Brushing
After washing, the wool may revert back to its
natural curly state. You can help restore the fluffy
appearance by brushing the wool while it is wet and
again when it is dry. A wire pet brush or comb is
suitable.
Dry Cleaning
As with most items, your sheepskin rug will look
better if you have them professionally dry cleaned
by a company experienced in cleaning this type of
item.
(They will be using either white spirits or
perchloroethylene.)

South American Sheepskin Rugs and Wall Hangings
Care Instructions
Unlike our washable New Zealand and Australian
sheepskins, which are practically indestructible,
more care will be needed with these South American
sheepskins.
These sheepskins are more “decorative” and “light
use” items than other types of sheepskin that can be
used for heavy, functional use. This is not to say
that you cannot “use” your sheepskin rug. Quite the
contrary! We simply mean that they shouldn’t be put
on the floor in your major traffic areas.
Here is the rule of thumb for you sheepskin rug:
“light use and little walking traffic”.
Brushing
Periodic “teasing” with a fine tooth cat brush will
help restore the soft, fluffy appearance of the
wool. Any fold marks from packaging can be removed
by this teasing process. In addition, simply
removing your sheepskin from the package and letting
it “breathe” for a few days will help restore its
natural look.
Storage
Should you wish to store your sheepskin rug, avoid
direct sunlight and store it in a cool airy place.
Storing your sheepskin rug in plastic bags for any
length of time is not advisable. You want your
sheepskin rug to be able to breathe and using
plastic bags prevents this. In addition,
condensation may occur in warm conditions if plastic
is used.
Cleaning
Our handcrafted South American Sheepskin rugs are
not machine washable! However, they may be vacuumed
and are easily dry cleaned by cleaners who are
experienced in this type of product.
Please be certain that your leather cleaner is
experienced in this type of product or they may
actually hurt the rug. Unfortunately, many of us
have had bad experiences taking our leather jackets
to the wrong cleaners!
These are no different.
In addition, some carpet cleaners can do a wonderful
job on these items. Once again though, taking them
to the wrong cleaner may harm you sheepskin rug.
Please be sure that your cleaner is experienced with
this particular kind of product.
Cleaning Small Spills or Spots
For spills or spot cleaning, a sponge with a mild
soap and water solution will work best. Make certain
that you don't get the leather wet by using so much
liquid that it penetrates through the fur, down to
the leather.
Periodically using some kind of talcum powder will
help to keep your sheepskin rug smelling fresh.
Hanging Instructions
All our sheepskin rugs can easily be hung by simply
using small finish nails or large push tacks. The
sheepskin will not be damaged in anyway.

Alpaca Fur Rugs and Bedspreads
Care Instructions
Unlike our washable New Zealand and Australian
sheepskins, which are practically indestructible,
more care will be needed with alpaca fur.
Our alpaca fur rugs and bedspreads are more
“decorative” and “light use” items than those used
for heavy, functional use. This is not to say that
you cannot “use” your alpaca fur. Quite the
contrary! We simply mean that they are not made to
sleep on every night. Neither are these alpaca furs
to be put on the floor in your major traffic areas.
Here is the rule of thumb for alpacas: “light use
and little walking traffic”.
Brushing
You may brush your alpaca fur with either a wire pet
brush or a hairbrush. This works particularly well
when it gets matted from sitting or laying on it.
Storage
Should you wish to store your alpaca fur rug, avoid
direct sunlight and store it in a cool airy place.
Storing your alpaca rug in plastic bags for any
length of time is not advisable. You want your fur
to be able to breathe and using plastic bags
prevents this. In addition, condensation may occur
in warm conditions if plastic is used.
Cleaning
Alpaca fur is not machine washable!
Your alpaca fur will need to be taken to a
professional furrier to be cleaned which can be
expensive. For that reason, and for the fact that
they are a more delicate item, care should be taken
to keep it clean in the first place.
For spills or spot cleaning, a sponge with a mild
soap and water solution will work best. Make certain
that you don't get the leather wet by using so much
liquid that it penetrates through the fur, down to
the leather.
Periodically using some kind of talcum powder will
help to keep your alpaca fur smelling fresh.

Synthetic Area Rugs / Wall Hangings Care
Instructions
Our area rugs/wall hangings are very easily cared
for by following the same procedures one would use
on most any other area rug. Periodic vacuuming will
not only clean your area rug but will also greatly
prolong its life. Dirt acts as a destructive
abrasive agent against the fibers of your rug and
will destroy it over time. Regular vacuuming will
prevent this.
For small spills, a sponge with soap and water is
more than adequate. For general cleaning, one can
use your basic “carpet cleaning machine”, rented
from most any grocery store.
We suggest not using extremely hot water, for it can
damage the olefin fiber in your rug. Here is a rule
of thumb: do not use water any hotter than you can
comfortably put your hand in.
Hanging Instructions
Many people use our area rugs for wall hangings.
Although one could make a mounting bracket that the
rug would attach to, it is much easier simply to
nail it to the wall using small nails. Mounting it
to brick or concrete is a bit more difficult. We
recommend asking someone at Home Depot or any other
hardware store for suggestions.
